The 2011 Marilyn Monroe Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 5 at Westwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles. A reception following the memorial service will be held at the Andrew Weiss Gallery in Beverly Hills, not far from Westwood.

Please help keep the legend of Marilyn Monroe alive by contributing to the Marilyn Monroe Memorial Fund. The Marilyn Remembered Fan Club, the entity arranging the memorial service since 1982, is again offering fans around the world the opportunity to become personally involved in the memorial service by becoming a sponsor of the 2011 event. Please note that 100% of donations will be used to fund memorial service and reception expenses. The Marilyn Remembered fan club is charged a facility usage fee of $500 to hold the service in the chapel at Westwood Memorial Park, the same chapel where Marilyn's actual funeral services were held. Other expenses include memorial service program printing costs, flowers for the service and Marilyn's crypt, chairs for additional seating if needed, refreshments for the reception following the memorial service, etc.

Fans Sought for "With Her," A New Marilyn Monroe Documentary

French L.A. based producer Laurent Morlet is currently directing a new Marilyn Monroe documentary. “With Her” will highlight the Marilyn Remembered Fan Club, which is the longest running Monroe fan club in existence.

Morlet is inviting fans from around the world to be included in the documentary, via a short and colorful home made "video clip." If you'd like to be part of this exciting project, simply record a short video of yourself, in which you express what Marilyn means to you.

About your video clip and how to participate:

- The duration of the clip cannot exceed 20 seconds and could be as short as one single word or sentence.

- Please record yourself in close-up mode, face cam.

- Use Quicktime or equivalent as video format.

About the Producer: Laurent Morlet is a French Television and Film producer, with more than 17 years of experience in his field. He has produced more than 1000 episodes of several famous TV shows for leading French TV networks TF1 and France 2. More recently he co-produced "La Cible" with Fox World, a daily show aired by France 2. He made his first Hollywood debut with "Norma Grace", a film that he wrote, directed and produced. In year 2000, Laurent Morlet was nominated for a French Emmy (7 d'Or). Executive Director of the Los Angeles Film and TV Office of the French Embassy from 2004 to 2009, Laurent Morlet is now freelancing as a Producer in Los Angeles, CA.

Marilyn Remembered Fan Club Meeting: Saturday, April 16, 3:00 PM

The next Marilyn Remembered Fan Club meeting will be held on Saturday, April 16 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at 247 South Beachwood Drive, Burbank, CA 91506.

The Marilyn Remembered Fan Club is happy to host a meeting, that in part, will celebrate Marilyn's stand-in and friend, Evelyn Moriarty.

Also, Emanuel Emanuele will be on hand to speak to club members about his unique and entertaining coloring book, "Color Me Marilyn." The book is available online for purchase here, and Emanuel will sign copies of the book at the meeting. Note: You must purchase and bring your own book as they will not be available for sale at the meeting.

Finally, a film producer/director will be attending this gathering, and possibly recording sections of the meeting for a new documentary about Marilyn Remembered.

Marilyn Monroe would have turned 85 years old on June 1, 2011. In recognition of this momentous occasion, the Andrew Weiss Gallery and the Marilyn Remembered Fan Club are pleased to present an exciting new exhibit titled simply, "Happy Birthday Marilyn."

In honor of Marilyn's birthday Marilyn Monroe fans around the world are invited to send personal birthday greetings to the screen legend and become part of an historic exhibition combining your wishes with one of the world's most in-depth collections of Marilyn photographs. The photos span her entire life, from the very first images to the last, taken by renowned photographers Bill Carroll, Milton Greene, Tom Kelley, Bert Stern, and George Barris. This exhibit is the first ever of its kind to include the world-wide Marilyn Monroe community.

The exhibit will run June 1, 2011 through August 13th, 2011.

A special reception will be held for the Marilyn Remembered Fan Club on Sunday, May 29, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm, before the exhibition opens to the public. A reading of selected cards will begin at 3:00pm. All Marilyn Monroe fans are invited to this special event, and refreshments will be served.

Greetings can be submitted in the form of a traditional birthday card, either store bought or handmade, or in the form of personally created/designed digital art. Paper birthday cards will be displayed along the walls of the gallery, and digital art will be compiled into a slide show that will be displayed on a large flat screen television in the gallery.

The Pictures that Started it All

Marilyn Monroe Exhibition Opens at the Andrew Weiss Gallery, Beverly Hills

94 year old Bill Carroll, the last living photographer of Norma Jeane, will be in attendance of the launch of a major photography exhibition-“Becoming Marilyn” at the Andrew Weiss Gallery June 17, 2010 to commemorate the 84th birthday of the timeless icon of glamour, Marilyn Monroe. The show will feature the world’s most in-depth collection of Marilyn Monroe photographs, including Bill Carroll’s rarely seen photos from 1945, to the very last pictures ever taken of her.

The photographic journey of Marilyn Monroe begins with those by Bill Carroll, who captured the image of a beautiful 19 year old girl, dreaming of stardom on a sunny beach in California. The pure innocence and simplicity in these portraits present us with an era long gone by. At 94 years old, Bill Carroll has waited 65 years to show them again. The exhibition will also include images by the man known to have made Marilyn famous, the legendary photographer of the stars, Bruno Bernard of Bernard of Hollywood™. His many photographs of Norma Jeane to Marilyn Monroe capture the dramatic metamorphosis of this aspiring model into the world’s most provocative legend.

In addition, the exhibit will present some of Marilyn Monroe’s most popular photo shoots, Bert Stern’s Last Sitting, George Barris’ Last Photos, Tom Kelley’s Red Velvet photos, as well as vintage photos by her personal confidant and business partner Milton Greene. Other early images of Marilyn as Norma Jeane by David Conover will also be on display. The exhibition opens to the public June 18, 2010 and will end September 18, 2010.

St. Croix Limited Edition Marilyn Monroe Sweater

The high end men's clothier St. Croix (www.stcroix shop.com) has partnered with renowned artist and sculptor Ludvic (www.ludvic.com) to develop a limited edition Marilyn Monroe themed sweater.

The sweater won't be available for purchase online and in stores until August. However, it will be unveiled and seen in public for the first time at the grand opening of the new Marilyn Monroe exhibit at the Hollywood Museum "Marilyn Remembered: An Intimate Look at The Legend," on Saturday June 5. Sylvia Barnhart Has Passed...

Marilyn Remembered is sad to announce that Sylvia Barnhart passed away in her home on Thursday, February 11th. Sylvia was Marilyn’s hairdresser early in Marilyn's career and was the first person to dye her hair blond.

Sylvia was a beloved member of Marilyn Remembered and her butterfly motifs always added so much to her wonderful personality. She loved the annual Marilyn birthday celebrations and Christmas parties, and her presence will be missed very much by all the club members. Marilyn Remembered extends their deepest sympathy to Sylvia's family.

Alfred Hitchcock used his television crew, shot in black and white on a tight schedule and produced one of the most terrifying films in Hollywood history. Anthony Perkins defined the loony Norman Bates whose devotion to his dead mother has murderous intent. Janet Leigh and a photo double endured hundreds of camera setups to produce the shower scene that is still taught in editing master classes.

The murderous set pieces are so well done that audiences still jump with fright even when they know what is coming. Robert Bloch penned the original novel and Bernard Herrmann’s score adds punch at just the right moments.

As always a cartoon, this time it's Hyde and Go Tweet(WB 1960) starring Tweety bird andSylvester.

Penny McGuiggan Has Passed…

Marilyn Remembered is sad to announce that Penny McGuiggan passed away on Sunday, November 15. Many of you know that Penny played trumpet in Sweet Sue’s Band in Some Like It Hot.

Penny was a long standing member of Marilyn Remembered, and she was a regular speaker at the Marilyn Monroe memorial service, often saluting Marilyn musically using the actual trumpet from the film.

Penny was a warm and caring person with endearing charm and sparkling blue eyes. She was a joy to be around, and she will be dearly missed. Please hold a good thought for Penny.

We're having a hard time keeping everyone on the email list informed because Yahoo is catching our outgoing email messages as SPAM and won't send them. There are too many people on the email list to send messages to individually, so we've created this online blog to keep everyone informed.

Sunday, October 25: Michael Selsman, Marilyn Monroe’s Final Press Agent

Marilyn Remembered is excited to have Mr. Selsman join us to talk about his new book, “"All is Vanity," a never-before-told look at Hollywood through the eyes of Marilyn Monroe. For more information on this new book, check out Scott Fortner’s blog here.

Mr. Selsman will be selling and signing copies of is book at the meeting.

Sunday, November 15: Sam Shaw’s Daughters

We will be extremely lucky on Nov. 15th to have a very special meeting with the daughters of top Marilyn Monroe photographer Sam Shaw. They are flying to us from the East coast to share stories of their father and his relationship with Marilyn. Mr. Shaw was hired by 20th Century-Fox to shoot publicity still of Marilyn for The Seven Year Itch. He became one of her top photographers. His books include “The Joy of Marilyn” and “Marilyn Among Friends.”

Both of these meetings are once in a life time opportunities to connect directly with people who knew Marilyn personally, so don’t miss them.
